Below, Dr. Camacho answers some of the most common questions that patients and parents raise, regarding the Invisalign Teen orthodontic solution:
What is Invisalign Teen?
Invisalign Teen is the same revolutionary technology used for Invisalign. It is a series of clear retainers that are changed out every 2 weeks to gradually realign the teeth.
Teens and young adults used to have to have all of their permanent teeth in before they could be treated with orthodontics, but Invisalign Teen is designed to function perfectly, regardless of if all the permanent teeth are in place. Invisalign Teen is designed to meet the unique needs of teens, such as growing molars.
But Does It Work?
The clear aligners are in most cases, just as effective as traditional braces but without the hassle and embarrassment that are connected to having a mouth full of metal. Invisalign works in a broad range of cases including severe crowding, overbites and smiles that are widely spaced, so yes they definitely work!
What about Treatment Time?
The average treatment time takes about a year, so in many cases using Invisalign Teen takes less time than traditional orthodontic braces, and it is much more comfortable, since the aligners move choppers in a more gentle manner.
Is It Expensive?
The cost of Invisalign Teen is about the same as braces, and is usually covered by insurance to the same extent as traditional metal braces.
We offer a variety of payment options including interest free financing. The total cost includes all records, all appointments relating to treatment; up to 6 individual aligners should your child lose one, refinement aligners at the end if more tooth movement is required for desired result and retainers when treatment is complete. There are no hidden fees.
Will My Child Wear Them?
The aligners contain small indicator dots that fade from blue to clear, estimating the approximate amount of time your teen spends wearing the aligners so you can monitor your child’s compliance easily. Some parents like to use the indicator system as a game and provide rewards for compliance so they are directly involved with their treatment.
What Happens If They Lose Them?
Here at Cosmetic Dentistry of San Antonio, your child’s Invisalign Teen treatment includes up to six individual arch replacement aligners at no charge. Over the past 2 years+, replacement aligners have been ordered less than 10% of the time. Most teens are more responsible than you think. They keep up with cell phones, make good grades, participate in sports/band, have jobs and take care of pets, so they’ll handle it with ease.
What Are Other Advantages?
The aligners can be removed to eat and to brush and floss. The patient is not restricted in their diet and they are less likely to develop gum problems since there are no metal brackets and wires to try and clean around.
Straight teeth are no longer just a cosmetic concern. Recent studies link heart disease and other systemic problems to gum disease and people with crowded and misaligned teeth have a higher incidence of gum problems.
