Q: What can I expect on my first visit?
Your first visit will be a no obligation consultation visit with Dr. Camacho. If it has been more than 3 years since you last had x-rays a complete series will be taken so that Dr. Camacho can evaluate the health of your teeth and surrounding bone. You will receive an oral cancer screening using Velscope®, the latest technology. This painless special light can detect any abnormalities before they can be seen by the naked eye. Dr. Camacho will then take the time to address your specific needs and wants, in order to help you achieve your ideal smile. Since we work with some of the top labs in the nation you will have all of the latest technology available to you so your options are not limited to only what one lab can offer including in-house labs. Dr. Camacho will recommend and help you decide what is the best treatment option for you.
Q: How much radiation will I get from the x-rays?
Here at Cosmetic Dentistry of San Antonio we have digital x-rays in all of our treatment rooms. Digital x-rays cut your radiation exposure by about 80%. You get radiation from numerous sources such as cell phones, outer space, flying, microwaves and TV's to name a few. This is measured in special units. On an average you get about 3 of these units a year. A complete series of x-rays is about the same exposure that you get on a round trip commercial airline flight from coast to coast so it is negligible compared to the benefits. People who keep their teeth live on an average of 7 to 10 years longer, so caring for your teeth and detecting problems early so that you do not end up losing your teeth is crucial to your health. Getting periodic x-rays is a valuable tool in early detection of potential problems . Digital x-rays also do not require any harmful chemicals to develop so therefore they are better for the environment and also for you since you are not exposed to the gases of these chemicals when you are in the office. We are in the process of making our office as green as possible!

If being environmentally responsible is a concern, we are constantly taking steps to make our office as green as possible. We use digital x-rays so there is no need for traditional toxic developing chemicals and the lead foil that lines regular x-ray film does not end up in landfills. We are also paperless so there are no paper charts. Paper charts can get lost or misfiled. We use only green certified cleaning products. Our office also has no carpet. Carpet is full of toxic chemicals that gas off and is also not very sanitary especially in a medical setting.
